The information on this page is to assist all visitors to our uniquely located ground with it's modern and welcoming Pavilion. And finding the Crawford Oval where many games are also played.
Parking restrictions apply in the sports precinct and in the University generally. These are enforced regularly by constant patrols, including on the weekends. Also, parking in Ormond College to the north of the Oval is not permitted and penalties may be imposed. Street parking, metered during certain hours, is generally available in College Crescent, Cemetery Road West, Princes Park Drive and Royal Parade.
You are advised to allow sufficient time to walk if you park in the neighbouring streets.
Some sports precinct permits are available on match days and are available from the home team on the day. Due to the paucity of parking spaces available and the need for clear access for emergency vehicles, these should ideally be allocated to those with bulky equipment, for mobility impaired persons etc. The only vehicle entrance is via Tin Alley off Swanston Street, proceed through the tunnel at the Sports Centre towards the tennis courts.
The University security patrols, operated by Wilson Security, issue penalty notices for illegal parking like confetti and in a less than pleasant manner, on some occasions. Please be warned. It is extremely likely that the most possible, the most improbable, the most inventive and the most bizzare excuses have already been submitted. And rejected.
While some think that the infringement notices are not enforceable, you adopt this view at your own risk.
Trust us, never ever contemplate parking in the University Colleges.
We are in the heart of the Melbourne University sports precinct surrounded by the University Colleges. The Ernie Cropley Pavilion, aka as the University Pavilion or the "Pavvy", is located on the north side of the University Oval.
The only vehicle entrance is via Tin Alley off Swanston Street, proceed through the tunnel at the Sports Centre towards the tennis courts.
Pedestrian access is also via Tin Alley off either Swanston Street or Royal Parade. You can walk past Trinity College or past the Beaurepaire Centre (Pool) or the tunnel at the Sports Centre towards the tennis courts. Alternatively from College Crescent via the walkway between Ormond and St.Hilda's Colleges. Melway reference 2B D5. Refer to Google map on the home page of this site.
The Crawford Oval is at the southern end of Princes Park, Carlton.
It is essentially bounded by Royal Parade, College Crescent and Princes Park Drive. Parking is available in the street.
If you are walking from the University Oval, the best way is via the walkway between Ormond and St.Hilda's Colleges that leads to College Crescent. Turn left. Cross at the lights. Head north and the Crawford is the first oval with a white fence around it. The pavilion is north west of the oval beside Royal Parade.
